Regarding 404.2.7 Gate and Door Hardware. (Operable parts of such hardware shall be 34 inch min and 48 inch max from the finish floor or ground). Though this is commendable, it is not practical for applications where there are dutch doors provided at classroom, mail room or copy center openings. Dutch doors at this type location often have shelves which serve as transaction tops at 36 inch AFF, and 2 inches is not a sufficient distance to be able to locate the hardware at 34 inch AFF for cylindrical or mortised locksets. Please consider 30 inch min for cylindrical hardware and 28 inch for mortised hardware to provide adequate space for hardware installation including a typical 1-1/2 inch shelf centered over the lower leaf of the dutch door. This would allow the transaction surface on a primarily closed door to function as such and be located at 36 inch AFF, which would seem to be more important of the conflicting information between hardware and transaction top height requirements. thx, njm
